Background - EIS Systems

Executive Information Systems are used by most manufacturing, and distribution, companies. They provide executives, and managers, with the ability to easily access and analyze the centralized operational database maintained by the ERP System.

Many companies still utilize very old generations of their ERP System. Many of them have decided to extend the life of their older ERP systems by purchasing, and utilizing, an EIS System that utilizes a more "modern" generation of database technology.

EIS Systems are either layered on top of the ERP System, if the ERP System uses a modern generation of database technology, or, if the ERP System does not use a modern generation of database technology, they operate on a copy of the centralized operational database that is maintained by the ERP System. If a copy of the operational database is used by the EIS System, it needs to be regularly refreshed.
