Manufacturing Companies are companies that purchase raw materials and/or purchase components, and then apply any number of value added services to them, in order to create finished goods that can be sold to their customers. Examples of these value added services include forging, machining, drilling, fabrication, welding, assembly, and packaging. These services can either be applied internally, or they can be purchased as outside services.

The finished goods can be built to the companies' own designs and specifications, generally referred to as proprietary products, or they can be built to their customers' designs and specifications, generally referred to as other equipment manufactured (OEM) products.

The companies that supply outside processing services are also considered to be manufacturers. For this type of manufacturers all required materials are normally supplied by their customers. Examples of these types of services include heat treating, blazing, plating, and painting. Providing these types of services generally requires significant investments in very specialized capital equipment.
