Introduction
Software products, designed to manage communication activity with prospects and customers, have been available for many years. The current generation of this category of software products is commonly referred to as Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. Contact Management software was one example of the term used to refer to previous generations of these types of products.
There are currently hundreds of these types of products available for purchase but only a very small percentage of companies that have purchased them have been able to make effective use of the product that they have implemented. There are four broad categories of available CRM products - 1) single user P/C based products (example is Microsoft's Outlook), 2) base level functionality client server based products (example is Goldmine), 3) full functionality client server based products (example is CRM from Oncontact), and 4) On-Demand web based products (example is SalesNet).
